Random watercolors

Since watercolor is the theme here are two lil paintings of an apple that Laura and I did here at the beach. I also painted a mug.

  1. The apples are quite nice and clearly done from careful study. I think the apple on top would benefit from a highlight across the forward crest of the top right, where the light is hitting and probably would reflect a bit. Similarly, the show through to white on the bottom apple is nice but it seems like it should be on the side opposite the shadow. So good on color, shape and shading. But stronger highlights would help you feel the volume. The mug is also good in a children's book way. It's a very "Tom" mug.

  2. Apple and mug have same lively frankness to a tomic, also, the light-shadow color relationship on the apple (not including cast shadow on table) are good apple colors. But Laura's apple looks more like it would have been a tasty apple.

  3. Appreciate "hips" as I'm calling them - changes in plane from side to front - described in Tom's apple, mottled colors in skins of Laura's apple, and mixture of hard glyphy edges and soft colors in mug.

  4. pwommy, the cup is nice, but howzabout some chess boy some of these days? I just reread the series, and found it to be most good. Also, the last comic was in december, and major character development occurred. Chess boy's name turned out to be Carlos, and his dad appeared!
