Anyhoo-- for one thing I like the pleasant rendition of a token smile at the checkout- I think it actually might be the detail that sets the whole tone- usually people would make a comic like this emphasize the depressingness of life being a series of boxes, but this just feels like an interesting observation of boxes prevalence.
I'm a big fan of illustrations of the mundane aspects lives. They invariably make these aspects of life more interesting, for no other reason than that they have been illustrated. It is the same with Mister Rogers films. The people working in the factory probably thought them to be soulless and uninteresting, but through the camera and Mister Rogers eyes, they become fascinating. Like a person mailing one box to earn a few bucks so he can eat dinner out of another box and go to sleep in a third.
Such good use of space within the panel! No wonder you're an art teacher.
